Midi Libre: Catalan CEO’s and mayors revolt against Spain’s treasury

The French journal Midi Libre reports on the expanding group of Catalan executives who, deeming Spain’s fiscal redistribution system unfair and abusive, are opting for “fiscal sovereignty” that is, rendering their taxes to the Catalan government rather than to the Spanish one, thus laying the foundations of a Catalan treasury:

Irritated by the redistribution system, which [the businessmen] find unfair, a small group of independentists from the Bages county launched last September a campaign called “Fiscal sovereignty Bages”, aimed at convincing their neighbours to settle their taxes to the Catalan administration rather than the Spanish one. “It is a way of rebelling, of opposing Catalonia’s fiscal deficit and giving more powers to the Generalitat (Catalan government) so that it can negotiate with Spain the finance system it really needs”.
