The Mossos d’Esquadra (Catalan Police) restricted access to a group of people who were on their way to the port of Mataró to wear yellow scarves, given that the president of the Spanish government, Mariano Rajoy, was there to have a meeting. The leader of the Partido Popular was in the city to participate in a PP campaign event at the Hotel Atenea Port.

The CUP (Popular Unity Candidacy) in Mataró denounced the occurrence in a tweet: “The Yellow mania comes to Mataró in the hands of Mariano Rajoy”. In the last few days the Central Electoral Board has forbidden the wearing of yellow ribbons by people chosen to work the polling stations on December 21st. It has also forced Barcelona City Council to remove the yellow illumination from fountains and façades, and has all yellow ribbons removed from public spaces
