The leader of the PPC (Partido Popular in Catalunya), Xavier García Albiol, has made controversial statements in which he asserted that “from the PP we propose to close TV3 and reopen it with normal people who are pluralists”, words that have angered the workers of TV3 and has the television station studying the remarks to consider if they ought to be considered libel or slander, with a view to talking legal proceedings.
An audio recording (below, in Catalan) was obtained by TOT Cerdanyola, in which the leader of the PPC can be heard accusing Catalan public television of “manufacturing independentists”, and stating that “subsidies to TV3 should be limited in a clear way”.
Albiol also explains that the Spanish government has suspended the subsidies “exclusively” to the independentist entities.
