Agustí Alcoberro, Vice President of the ANC, and from Omnium Cultural, Marcel Mauri, presented the details of the coming demonstration planned for this Saturday in Barcelona to protest the imprisonment of 10 political prisoners and in defense of freedom and democracy. The concentration will be on Carrer Marina and will travel from Pujades Street to Avinguda Icària, where the main events will be held.
Under the slogan “Freedom for Political Prisoners, We are a Republic”, the pro-sovereignty entities will hold a rally this Saturday at 5:00 pm at Marina Street in Barcelona.
Apart from the usual leaders, there will also be an “honour guard” with the relatives of the political prisoners, the two presidents of the main civil society bodies and the 8 jailed counselors.
The Vice President of the ANC, Agustí Alcoberro, highlighted the symbolism of Marina Street, where there are emblematic monuments in the city, such as the Sagrada Familia and the sea view.
For his part, the vice-president of Omnium, Marcel Mauri, asserted that this is a “national day for freedom, in a country of peace.” And he added that Catalonia “will once again demonstrate peaceful and democratic civility and spirit” but, at the same time, “with determination and firmness we will say enough is enough”.
“You do not play games with civil rights,” Mauri said, who stated that the demonstration will also be a full frontal rebuttal to article 155, which brings together “all democrats”.
The two vice-presidents have sent a message of solidarity to the members of the Cabinet who today gave statements at the Supreme Court, accused of crimes of rebellion, sedition and embezzlement. “We hope that today they will return home,” Mauri wished.
Agustí Alcoberro announced that in the coming days more information will be issued about the events planned for Saturday.
