Spain boycotted the Catalan visit to Morocco whilst organising one with Basque companies

Catalan MonitorNews Roundup, Vilaweb

The Catalan and Flemish governments had to suspend a trade mission to Morocco that had to be headed by the Catalan Premier Carles Puigdemont and the Flemish First Minister Geert Bourgeois, from the 7th to the 9th of May. A bit before the trip, the Moroccan government informed that none of the political officers would be able to meet them. The Catalan government has denounced the pressure by the Spanish one.

So today the Spanish government has informed through the Spain Trade and Investment Office in Casablanca that a group of Basque companies will visit the country from the 8th to the 12th of May, that is, almost the same dates in which the Catalan and Flemish visit had to take place.

Differently to other visits by the Catalan government, this one had been organised by the Spanish and Belgian embassies. The two governments had asked their diplomatic representatives for support for a trade and investment mission. However, the Spanish embassy had sabotaged it, something that has left Belgian diplomats speechless and has stirred the condemn by the Catalan government, which has qualified it as a “base obstruction”.
